Be the Light! 2/11/23

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere- in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8 NLT

“You are the light of the world-like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. Noone lights a lamp and then puts is under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father”. Matthew 5:14-16

I have big thoughts on the recent Grammy awards this past week. There has been on onslaught of “Christians” condemning the “Christians” that were at the show. Some believe that the ones there should have walked out. They should make a video condemning the show. They are calling for a boycott on their music. Pointing to them as how the church has “lost its way”. So, get ready to be offended in my response. If Jesus didn’t come to condemn the world, I doubt He sent you. Could you imagine being called to be the light and then get mad when He sends you into the dark? They got a public stage, in front of millions, to declare the name of Jesus. They waited in the dark, watching the horror that was going on so they could have their moment, their platform, however brief it was to proclaim Jesus in a room full of people who hate Him. How else could people be saved unless His name be lifted up. Listen, He has given you power to be the witness. Everywhere. Not just in the safety our house behind our little computers, or the safety of our little churches. It’s another thing to proclaim Him in the dark. The Good news of the church, we have the power to be the light. You have the good news. We don’t hang out in dark places, we show up to dark places. Don’t be afraid to go to dark places and be the light. Read that again. Jesus’ first miracle was at a wedding, where people were getting drunk. Go be the light. You have the power. #BeTheLight
